Tonight Tekün family is going to have a party. It is going to be a garden party for their son, Ahmet, who has finally graduated from the faculty of medicine after six years of hard work. He has always been a good student. Therefore, his success is not a surprise to the family. The other son, Mehmet, is not like his brother. He is lazy. For example now, everybody in the family is doing the final preparations for the party except him. He is only watching TV. He hates work. He is not good at school, either. Next year he is going to take the university exam but no one in the family, including himself, is expecting him to go to university. Now Mrs. Tekün is trying to move the furniture but she can’t do it because the sofas and the tables are too heavy for her. Ahmet runs to help her. --“Oh mum, I can do it myself. You just sit back and have some rest. You have been working since the morning.” he says. Mr. Tekün is in the garden. He is placing the chairs. It is difficult for him but he is not complaining. But he needs help; --“Ahmet, will you come here please. I need your help.” -“I am sorry dad but I am helping mum at the moment.” Then he asks Mehmet. --“Mehmet, look here. Will you help me with the chairs please?” -“No.” --“But why not?” -“Because I am watching TV” 4 hours later Now it is 8 pm and all the guests have arrived. Music is playing. People are dancing or talking. It is a quiet and enjoyable party. However, Mehmet isn’t there. Where is he? Nobody seems to worry about this question as they don’t recognize Mehmet’s absence. 2 hours later Where is Mehmet? This is the question that everybody is asking now. Suddenly they hear a gunshot from inside the house. Bang!. Has Mehmet shot himself? Now Mehmet’s mother is running out of the house. She is crying and she has a note in her hand. “He has gone” she says. Mr. Tekün takes Mehmet’s note from her hand and now he is reading it aloud; “Dear mother, dear father, This is the last time I call you ‘father and mother’ because I won’t see you again. Ahmet is your son. He is your pride. He is good, honest, helpful, hardworking, and successful. But I am lazy and unsuccessful. I am not like my brother. I do not look like him either. He is tall and slim but I am lazy and fat. For a long time I thought about this and now I have found the answer: I am not your son. I think you found me on the street when I was a baby. Now I am going away. I wish you health, wealth, and happiness.” They never heard of him again.
